I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in Korean Studies at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA). As a long-time K-pop fan, I was always interested in observing how others enjoyed it, as well as in reflecting on my experiences as a K-pop fan living in France, South Korea, and the US. In my research, I examine the power dynamics between K-pop fans inside and outside Korea, showing how these converge toward a contrasting, imagined sense of authenticity in K-pop. I am working on my book monograph, currently entitled K-pop Nation(alism): Narratives of Authenticity after the Korean Wave. My biases are Jungwon from Enhypen, San from ATEEZ and Fuma & JO from &TEAM. My favorite groups right now are Enhypen, &TEAM, ATEEZ, and NCT127.
